If there were still more than 10 boxes, I continued the process with W and Y, and that got me down to a single digit number 100% of the time. By that point, I was usually down to only 5 or 6 boxes that hadn't been solved correctly, and with only 6 letters to choose from, it was much quicker to choose the boxes individually and just enter the correct letter. My personal approach was to do all the letters in order up through V but skipping J and Q. So on and so forth through the rest of the alphabet. With the options set in the way outlined above, hold down the A key until the entire crossword is filled with A's.
Using this method, the small crosswords from the first half of the adventure maps take 2-3 minutes, the medium puzzles from the latter half of the map take 4-5, and the large puzzles from Bonus Level 3 and the Sunday Map Pack puzzles take 6-7.
